What are clans, exactly?
Clans are people grouped together around a common theme. They are not
temples who choose to worship a particular deity, though the clan may support,
admire, honor, or otherwise support one or more immortals or heroes. No
hero or immortal will be the "patron" for any clan, although they may choose
to interact with them. A clan may be based around social, philosophical, racial,
political, or even theological concepts and goals - all of which must be
completely in-character.
Possible (though extreme) concepts for clans may include:
Gnomes who believe in the superiority of gnomes over other races.
The Round-world society, dedicated to proving the world is round.
The Anti-Ica movement, striving to prove that might does not make right.
The Dragon Slayers.
The Magic Appreciation society.
There are many more ideas - the limit is your imagination! Of course,
there may be clans set up in opposition to other clans - an anti-magic society
would find itself clashing with any pro-magic society, and the Mages guild
as well.
What benefits are there to belonging to an officially approved clan?
Clans which earn official sanctioning will have their own message board
within the clan board folder, a lodge in the lands which may expand over
time, an extra line in their character description showing their clan affiliation
(and title within the clan), and the ability to communicate in-land with
everyone in their clan at once (clanshouts). Clan leaders will be able to
initiate members into their organization, bestow titles, and work with the
gods to design and build their clan hall.
What if the clan leader disappears, or absconds with the clan treasury?
This would be unfortunate, but the gold would not be replaced, so choose
your clan leader carefully.
How are clan leaders replaced?
A current clan leader may appoint a successor should they be absent or retire
from the lands. If a clan leader is missing for three OOC months and does
not appoint a new leader (by mailing OGCC Clans from their registered email
address), the clan members may elect a new leader via the boards and notify
OGCC Clans of the change in administration. OGCC Clans will review the replacement
and should the new leader meet all of the requirements set forth in the Clan
Handbook, then they will grant the newly elected person leadership status.
Why can't a clan be under a specific hero or immortal?
Clans are completely mortal run and are not to be confused with temples.
You can affiliate with an immortal (with their approval) or a hero (with
their approval), but they are not in charge of, nor in any way obligated to
your clan. For example, Ica would probably show favor on a clan dedicated
to bloodlust and war, while Anyana and Andaria may favor a clan of storytellers.
If so that approval might take the form of appearing occasionally to roleplay
with them, but would not take the form of official advocacy or significant
assistance.
How long does it take to get official approval for my clan?
At least five Legends Of Cosrin years (which is approximately 3 real life
months).
Why does approval take so long?
The Clans program has been established long enough that we now feel the
need to be selective. There is a lot of effort required by Legends Of Cosrin
staff to code the lodges, change your status to clan leader, set up message
boards, etc. Clans come and go with players' interest, therefore Clans have
to first prove they will be around for the long haul before approval will
be given. This is a lot of work, but a wonderful way to add color to the
community!
Can clans be turned down for official approval?
Yes, however Clans who meet the requirements in the Clan application procedures
will be considered, unless:
a) The theme of the clan is out of character. Clans are a mortal's tool
for concrete role-play and as such, they are encouraged to enhance the fantasy
atmosphere of the land.
b) No offensive groups will be sanctioned. Offensive is defined as any
group violating AOL's Terms of Service in the United States (See Keyword
TOS).
Can clan status be revoked once it is approved?
Yes, Clan status may be revoked upon the following conditions:
1) It may be revoked for violations of Legends Of Cosrin's Acceptable Use Policy.
2) Alternatively, if a clan violates the precepts for which it is formed,
for example a clan dishonoring an Immortals name when it is supposed to be
honoring it, it will be disbanded.
3) If a clan's current, active, registered members falls below eight - the
clan may be considered defunct and be disbanded.
4) Repeated harping of staff regarding your clan hall being added to the
lands ;) Staff may choose to simply smite you instead and have been given
full authority to do so.
How to apply for Clan status
Application Summary: Submit 500,000 gold, a clan roster, and history
of clan (description of who or what you are) to OGCCClans@aol.com, wait 5
Legends Of Cosrin years (while maintaining minimum clan membership) and then
submit a clan help file for final approval.
1. Submit an e-mail to OGCCClans with the subject header "Application
for X Clan". The cost for submitting a clan application will be 500,000
gold pieces which will be deducted from the character submitting the application's
Legends Of Cosrin bank account. If you do not follow the instructions laid
out in this file EXACTLY, your application will be rejected. You may reapply
for clan status, but each application thereafter will cost 250,000 gold pieces.
2. Include in the e-mail a history of your clan. This may be as long as
you like, it could also be a description and not a formal history. Remember
to keep your history based in Cosrin lore. If your clan is just forming,
you cannot claim to have been around since the beginning of time. You should
also submit a roster of your clan members. There must be AT LEAST Seven (7)
active members in your clan at all times. You must identify the clan leader,
who must be at least level 25 and over 30 Legends Of Cosrin years
old (type STATS to find out your age).
3. There will be a waiting period of 5 Legends Of Cosrin years before
your clan will gain official approval (this is approximately 3 real life
months, and may vary depending on staff work-load and other factors).
4. Once the waiting period has ended, you will need to notify OGCCClans
in an e-mail, with the current roster for your clan. They will reply,
stating if your application has been successful or not. You will then need
to submit a help file which will be included in the Help system of Legends
Of Cosrin (This must be no longer than 10 lines long).
5. 1,000,000 more gold will be deducted from the bank account of the clan
leader, upon a successful application for official recognition of the clan.
Details of how the clan leader may create a clan hall will be sent at that
time.
