What is Legends Of Cosrin ?
Legends Of Cosrin is a Multiuser Role Playing Game. It is played via
internet at the same time as many other players are online. This means there
are other people playing alongside yourself. It is a role-playing
fantasy game. You are a fighter, wizard, monk, etc. You complete
quests, slay foul beasts, gain experience, and advance your skills
within land. It is similar to an adventure game in that you move
throughout the locations of the land using compass directions (N, S, E,
W, U, D, NE, SE, NW, SW or using the compass icons) and like a fantasy
role playing game in that your character or persona has certain skills
and abilities that improve as time goes on. Legends Of Cosrin is an
open ended game, meaning there is really no specific "end." However,
there are lots of intermediate goals. One constant goal is staying
alive! There are many evil creatures within Legends Of Cosrin and you
must seek to survive their onslaught!
There are also many quests scattered around Legends Of Cosrin. When in
a location that offers a quest, you can type SHOW QUESTS to hear about
the quest. Often, quests require you to slay a creature or return with
an item. When you have done so, hold the item in your right hand and
type OFFER. Item manipulation commands include: pack, unpack, get,
drop, swap, wear, remove, offer.
As you gain experience levels, you will earn build points. Build points
can be spent (along with gold) on learning new skills or improving
existing skills. When you enter a location with a shop (it will say <name>
has a shop here which will teach skills) use the SHOW SKILLS command to
see what skills are for sale. Then, use the LEARN <skill
#> command to learn the skill. Remember, you will need the build
points and gold the skill costs in order to learn it. By learning
skills multiple times, you increase your ability with the skills.
Another goal of Legends Of Cosrin is to make online friends.
Legends Of Cosrin is a rich outlet for role-playing. You can
communicate with others in the same room by typing SAY
<message>. To tell a particular person something, even if
they're not in the same room, type TELL <person>
<message>. This can be abbreviated by
<Person> <Message>.
For example: Merlin How about meeting me in the town square? The SHOUT
<message> command is used to shout a message to everyone
in Legends Of Cosrin. We ask that you use this command sparingly!
The WISH <message> command sends a message to the online
immortals and heroes (game moderators). Use this commands when in need of help or
assistance.
During your time on Legends Of Cosrin, you will face death. When you
have been killed, you have 2 options. First, use the DIE command to be
reborn. This removes any excess experience you had towards your next
level and takes 1/2 of your gold. Thus, if you were a 4th level
character 22% of the way to 5th level with 1000 gold, after issuing
DIE, you will be 4th level and 0% to 5th level with 500 gold. Note, by
depositing money in the bank you can safeguard your gold! Another way
to handle death is to get another person to cast a magic spell and
restore your life. This often results in much less of an experience
point loss and 0 gold loss. However, only very powerful players can
restore life from the dead so you may not be so lucky as to die when
one is around or willing to help you! Remember that once dead the
giving of life again is a GIFT not a right. You do NOT lose any of your
items, skills, stats, etc., when you die. Thus, dying on Legends Of
Cosrin is about as painless as possible ;)
BASIC MOVEMENT
You can move in any of the basic compass directions. To move you just
type the direction you want to move in. (so to go NORTH you just type
NORTH). You will see that you are informed what directions are
available on the screen. You will NOT be able to move in a direction
that is blocked.
You will also find that you get bored VERY quickly having to type
NORTH, NORTHWEST, SOUTH , etc. To help you out Legends Of Cosrin will
allow you to type just the first letter of a direction. (So to go NORTH
you can just type N).
Or, you can use the numpad or the compass icons.
-
N = NORTH
-
NE = NORTH-EAST
-
E = EAST
-
SE = SOUTH-EAST
-
S = SOUTH
-
SW = SOUTH-WEST
-
W = WEST
-
NW = NORTH-WEST
-
U = UP
-

Combat in Legends Of Cosrin
Hold the weapon you want to use in combat in your right hand. If not
holding a weapon in your right hand, you will be using your martial
arts skill for combat. The SWAP command may be important when moving
items about and the "I" command to see what items are in which hand.
When you enter a room with a creature, it will show in the Monsters
Here section. Note, friendly monsters will show there as well! In
general, when in friendly areas like towns, don't attack the monsters
as this will brand you an outlaw and the town guards will come after
you!
To use a hand to hand weapon on a creature, you must move to engage it.
Use the Advance command (AD for short). Note, if the creature advances
on you, you do not need to issue an advance command (it has come towards
you). The AD command can be used with a monster name to specify a
particular creature to advance on.
To swing the weapon, use the Attack (A for short) command. This will
attack the first creature you are engaged with. A <monster
name> attacks a specific creature you are engaged with. Each
swing takes a certain amount of combat time. If you issue another A
command too quickly, Legends Of Cosrin will tell you how long you need
to wait until your persona is ready to attack again (usually 3-4
seconds). As you improve your weapon skill, the time it takes you to
swing goes down.
If using a missile weapon, you attack with the A command but do not
need to issue the Advance command.
If hidden or invisible, you do not need to issue the Advance command
either (you can sneak right up onto the monster)
There is no player v.s. player combat in Legends Of Cosrin. Legends Of
Cosrin is a cooperative world that is challenging enough without having
to always watch your back from evil players!
At low levels, you can issue the RECALL command to instantly teleport
out of battle and back to town. This ability goes away at 6th level and
will then require you to buy a recall ring. Take advantage of this
command to stay alive!
The KL (kill list) command will show you a tally of creature kills
(perfect for bragging!) Also, the SCORE command keeps a tally of number
of creatures killed per session, damage tallies, etc., and is quite
interesting to review periodically.
Interacting with Shops
When you go into a location with a shop, you will be told what the shop
does (sells items, buys items, teaches skills, teaches spells, or
performs services). The following commands are used in shops:
-
SHOW ITEMS See a list of items for sale
-
SHOW SKILLS See a list of skills available
-
SHOW SPELLS See a list of spells available
-
SHOW SERVICES See a list of services available
-
BUY <item #> Buys a particular item
-
DESCRIBE <item #> Gives you information on a particular
item
-
LEARN <skill #> You train 1 skill level in a particular
skill
-
SCRIBE <spell #> You learn 1 spell level in a particular
spell
-
SERVICE <service#> You pay for a service to be performed
on you
-
SELL <item name> Sells an item to a shop
-
APPRAISE <item name> Tells you what a shop will pay for
an item
Guilds
Shops that are generally available have limited skills and spells they
will teach. To find shops with better offerings, you will want to join
a guild. Note, you want to join a guild which will meet your needs. A
fighter that joins a wizard guild will find himself unable to learn
higher level fighting skills, etc. So choose your guild carefully for
they will become your family and offer you protection, teaching and
guidance in return for your loyalty. Guilds are run by GM's
(guildmaster) and they govern and rule over the guild and guide its
existence in the lands. They can reward as well as discipline those
within their rolls.
The adventurers guild is an exception guild. Anyone can join, and you
always retain your membership in this guild. Thus, you can belong to
the adventurers guild and one other.
To join a guild, find the guild and perform the quest asked of you.
From then on, the following commands become available:
-
GUILDSTATUS (GS) Tells you information about your guild ranking
-
GUILDTITHE <percent> Sets your guild tithing percentage
-
GUILDTITLES Displays the guild titles set by your guildmaster
-
GUILDLOCKER <item> Deposits an item in your guild locker
-
SHOW GUILDLOCKER Shows items in your guild locker
-
GUILDDEPOSIT <amount> Deposits gold in your guild treasury
As you gain experience, whatever percentage you set for guildtithe is
given to the guild. This will elevate you through the guild just like
earning experience elevates you through character levels. Your
guildmaster can use this experience tithe pool to aid the guild. GS
will show you how close you are to your next guild level and who your
guildmaster and guild officers are.
Hit Points
At the top of your screen, you will see a hit point and spell point
total. If your hit points get to 0, you die! To regain lost hit points
and spell points, use the REST command. About once a minute you will
regain some of each (the exact amount is based on a number of factors
including your skill level in physical training and spiritual karma)
There are many items in the land which will allow you to regain lost
hit points. Drinking healing potions, going to a doctor and use the
SERVICE command to buy healing, other players casting heal spells for
you, etc. Always watch your hit points and RECALL when in trouble! If
you do die, you can use the DEATHS command to feel a little better by
seeing the others who have died recently!
Using Spells
To see the list of spells you have, type SPELLS or use the spells icon.
To cast a spell, use CAST <spell name> or CAST
<spell #> To target a spell, use TARGET
<monster> or TARGET <player> or TARGET
(will target the first monster in the room or you depending on the
spell type). You can use the T command short for Target.
When casting a spell, it will use a certain number of your remaining
spell points (shown at the top of the screen). You cannot cast a spell
unless you have enough spell points remaining to do so. Note, you can
walk around with a spell readied (this allows you to cast an offensive
spell and walk around ready to target it at the first sign of trouble!)
Getting more help on Legends Of Cosrin
Legends Of Cosrin is much more complex than shown here. There are many
more commands and concepts within the land. This will get you started
but you'll find you need to know more.
The online help in Legends Of Cosrin is quite extensive. Type HELP or
HELP INDEX to get it started, or type HELP <topic> for
help on a particular topic (like HELP COMBAT, HELP MAGIC, etc.) To
learn how to complete your first quest and join the adventurer's guild,
type HELP NEW.
And remember, if you ever need help while in Legends Of Cosrin, use the
WISH <message> command to ask an online immortal or hero to come
to your aid.
