Mages Guild Charter

Introduction

Magic has been in the world before the recording of time. Before there was Legends Of Cosrin, there was magic. And, for that long, peoples have struggled to understand and harness the awesome powers of magic. It is through this Guild that one has the opportunity to tame this great force to one's will, or be destroyed by it. This is a path that demands focus and discipline.

The Mages Guild was formed by ancient group of spell casters, who sought to bring together the various schools of magic that were driven apart by the Immortal Valtera. These included; Sorcerers, Shaman, and Wizards.

Mages, are not bound by codes, laws, or Guild edicts. They do not have a particular alignment, they follow the path set by their own hearts. They weave their spells to their own end. Mages Guild members have the strongest character in all of Legends Of Cosrin, as we use our intellect and creativity to survive.

Governing Body

Guild Master:

The Guild is headed by a Mage with the title of Guild Master (GM). He or She is the highest-ranking Mage in Legends Of Cosrin and his or her laws control the Guild and its members. This is position is elected by the members of the Guild.

Sub-Guilds

Each path will be headed by a Guild Lieutenant, who is a member of that Sub-Guild. The GL will have leadership of their Sub-Guild, however the GL remains responsible to the GM. If there is not a GL of the Sub-Guild in office one will be appointed by the Guild Master. The Mages Guild has three sub-guilds. In order to join you must attain the 26th guild level. Following a path means you are the embodiment of its ethos. Each path's ethos is different so bear that in mind when making your final selection.

Each Subguild has adopted their own charter, which are scribed separate but indeed considered parts of the guild charter that apply for the respective members of the subguilds.

The Covenhouse:

The Covenhouse can be seen from the graveyard of Moorgate. This is quite appropriate as the Covenhouse has a strong affinity with the dead, undead, and darker magical arts. This is a path for warlocks, wizards, and witches.

Serenity:

Serenity is, as its name suggests a subguild of sereneness, neutrality, light and peace. Mages who find a kinship with nature and the elements will find themselves at home here.

The Labyrinth:

The Labyrinth is for those Mages who have the desire to pursue Knowledge as their way through Magick. There is no "Light" or "Dark" in the Labyrinth, only Knowledge. The path to Knowledge is much like the way through the Great Maze nestled below the Labyrinth Spire of Knowledge. It is full of twists and turns.

OOC Note on sub-guilds: Paths are purely role-playing devices and allow for a stronger bond between members of such a large guild.

Judgement

Living in any society it is not unusual that problems arise, be it between guildmembers or members of the Mages Guild and other inhabitants of Cosrin. You as a mage are responsible for your actions at any time and you shall solve conflicts by yourself in a calm and tactful manner. However, if you see that such is not possible for you, call on one of your Guild Lieutenants or the Guildmaster and they shall investigate the matter. The guild's administration is there to aid you and to protect the guild and its members. If a matter is brought before the Guildmaster, he or she shall judge the issue in a lawful and wise manner. The Guildmaster shall be just and fair to both, the suitor and the defendant, the personal feelings and opinions of the Guildmaster about any of them shall not influence the decision made. If it is an incident between guildmembers, the members affected shall obey the judgement made by the Guildmaster. He or she is the highest judicial authority in matters between mages and the decision made shall not be subject to appeal. In matters between a mage and another inhabitant of Cosrin, the Guildmaster shall investigate the incident and then decide what to do, eventually contacting another authority to help solving the conflict. In any way, the Guildmaster's decisions are obligatory for members of the Mage's Guild.

Skills

Our skills, which have been developed over the years through hard work, suffering and even death, are one of our greatest secrets. To teach these to those not of the guild is considered a betrayal, not only of your fellow guild members, but also of those that went before and those that will come in the future. To this end, teaching of Arcana or Spell Use (namely NSU or MSU) skills will result in removal of four levels of the skill taught as a minimum. Repeated offenses will also result in the loss of Guild Levels.
