Charter of the Monks Guild

This charter contains general guidelines for members of the Monk's Guild of Moorgate. These guidelines are to be followed when it is possible within the boundaries of your own being. It is understood that we are all individuals, and we must follow our own path; however, there must be a guiding light for those who have lost their way and those who are seeking a way. It must also be understood that these are the suggestions and pointers that have been proven effective and wise, and blatant disregard of these will no doubt have repercussions..

  1. The guild is a place for all to enjoy and develop themselves. With this in mind, it is of utmost importance that we accept one another and treat each other with the respect we ALL deserve. It matters not who or what path a Guild Member chooses; he or she is a Monk, of our Guild, of our Family, and should be treated as such. While respect is something that remains impossible to define in any precise way within the confines of language, demonstration of proper respect remains integral to being a Monk. In dealing with our brothers and sisters, disagreements will at times inevitably arise, and not all disagreements are essentially negative - indeed, growth often comes from such. However, insults that have no demonstrable purpose other than provocation, words or actions that have no demonstrable purpose other than injury, and disruptive disagreements that live beyond any demonstrable purpose have no place in our dealings with each other, with your brothers and sisters. At the same time, it should be recognized that non guild members too are part of this society. They, too, shed blood, suffer and experience joy, and live life on this same ground. Recognition of, and regard for, this basic shared fellowship should be respected in our dealing with others.
  2. All Guild members should be aware of the effect their actions may have on the Guild, and all should strive to promote the Guild and the Guild's beliefs at all opportunities: dedication, spirituality and understanding.
  3. An essential part of being a Monk is respect for divinity in and of itself. This is reflected in the very titles granted as one advances along the Path set by the Guild Tutors. As such, all Immortals - no matter their views - should be shown respect which reflects our acknowledgment of their status (and our own humble position in comparison) in any dealings with Them. While it is understood that some Monks values may even be diametrically opposed to those of various Immortals, that opposition can be expressed and even acted upon with the same mindfulness due our Brothers and Sisters, at minimum. The Heroes of the lands, though not immortal, should also be shown respect as they are the chosen ones of the Immortals and as such represent them in many ways. The exception to this is when a hero or immortal force threatens the lands of Cosrin, at which point we must help defend the lands against their onslaughts. Should a member feel a hero or immortal is being unfair to them, bring this to the attention of the guild master or guild assistants, and ask them to try and help you with the problem; this may not yield the effect you desire but may help solve your problem with as little fuss as possible as upsetting a hero or immortal can be both costly to yourself and the guild's reputation.
  4. Members of the Monks guild of Moorgate should try at all times to be helpful to those that need assistance. This does not include giving quest answers but should include helping those that may be lost to find their feet in the lands, whether it be through the member's knowledge of the lands or even physical or magical aid. We should all strive to be of assistance to others when this does not infringe upon our own interests and aims. We reap what we sow.
  5. All members of the guild should take time to get to know each other, as through understanding we only strengthen the guild. If you have questions, feel free to ask the guild officers for aid, and should you see a newer member having problems try and take time to help them. This does not include giving quest answers or money but could include helping them purchase basic guild equipment. If you are unable to help them, please contact a Guild Officer and they will see to the young Monk.
  6. There is no set limit on guildtithing, but the guild asks that all who are able tithe at least 20% of their earned experience to the guild. When participating in official guild hunts, however, guildtithe is expected to be at least 50%. You should also take into consideration that the more we all tithe, the more we can afford to buy the guild luck or other help to the guild. Tithing is a way we can all show our belief and thanks to the rest of the guild. As weapons, items, and higher skills lay beyond level restricted portals, it is strongly suggested that you keep your land and guild levels close or equal at all times.
  7. The guild strongly opposes the killing of innocents, which is against monk values. Violence, though necessary in defense and self-preservation, never solves any problems, and usually causes more harm than good. Furthermore, the guild is a safe haven for all souls in need and we should try our utmost to protect those seeking our help and sanctuary. Monks should never attack an innocent within the guild.
  8. In the event that the guild comes under attack from outside forces, ALL members are expected to defend the guild in whatever way possible, whether this be through healing the defenders, strengthening the defenders with spells, or joining in repelling the attacking forces...protecting the sacred halls of the guild.
  9. All guild members are expected to follow and respect the laws of the land and of OGC (HELP RULES) at all times, and if infractions are seen, should notify a Guild Officer immediately.
  10. All guild members should try and remember to guildshout greetings and farewells whenever possible and tag their names to these shouts when they do so.
  11. All members of the guild should read the guild boards whenever possible and are encouraged to share their discoveries (non quest only) and other non-confidential information on these boards. The boards are not an area to voice our dislikes of other members or nonmembers. Should any member have a problem with another Cosrin player, it is expected these differences should not be done over shouts or on the boards, but through tells, and should the problem persist, then all members should approach a guild officer to help them solve these problems. Should a guild officer not be present then members should use the message command to inform the guild officers of the problem (Message Ex. Message Galthus I don't understand how herbalism works. Help me please.)
  12. Learning the art of making pastes, potions, and scrolls takes much time and dedication. It is therefore requested that they are valued according to this and not only to the price of the ingredients. In particular, the pastes of vitality and spirit are extremely powerful. In order to secure the availability of the rare ingredients used for these, a minimum price has been set at 1000 gold pieces per charge. Selling below this price will be subject to Harsh punishment. Also, no more of either of these pastes may be sold to a group or individual than can be carried at the time. Doing so will be subject to Harsh punishment. When supplied in hunting groups, pastes should be handled with caution and discretion.
  13. The martial arts are the great trademark of the monks. Furthermore, the spirituality of our guild is second to none, and our herb-lore is the result of many generations of painstaking study. These skills are the foundation of what makes us monks. Teaching the skills of Martial Arts, Spiritual Karma, and Herbalism to those outside the guild betrays the trust our tutors place in us when they teach us the sacred arts. Anyone caught doing so will be subject to punishment; for example they could lose levels of their own skills and be forced to bear a title reflecting the monk's untrustworthiness and shame for a period of three OOC months.
  14. Finally remember the Guild Officers are here to help you, and are there to serve you....the guild. So please don't ever be shy when you have any problem or question. Have fun...exploring this wondrous land of Cosrin!
