Chapter 2 - The Dawning of a Modern Era
Time passes
like the waters of the river. Flowing away, downstream, never to be
harnessed. In times of great need, steps must be taken to assimilate
into the flow. After centuries of living far and apart from the rest of
society, if not in a physical distance, then indeed in matters of the
spirit. The Monk's guild had seen many years come and go, and along
with them, many who sat in the seat at the head of the council table.
But none in the past had been as savy as the one who sat now. What
follows is a chronilogical listing of the ages of the Monk's guild from
the time of Dandy to the time of this retelling. It is taken from the
scrolls of guild ages in the library of the mage Cassandra, and those
of the Daisho Dojang.
Age
of the Ancient Mist
122 -126
This age, under the leadership of Dandy, began the groundwork that
built the Monks guild. The times were marked by the guild's never
ending quest for unity of mind, body, soul and its members continued
growth. Dandy was unseated by a forced vote for GM after his short
absence caused a stir, led by Demonstar.
Age of the Hidden Hand
126 - 130
This age, under the leadership of Demonstar, is mired in controversy.
There were many detractors who stated beliefs in a "hidden hand"
guiding Demonstar's decisions, but no conclusive evidence was ever
offered to support such claims. The facts are lost to time, but it
remains that the reign of the Monk's first female GM saw the guild
through many changes.
Age of the Granite Stone
130 - 148
This age, under the leadership of Lux, brought stability to the Monks
guild. The guild became a strong force in the lands for perhaps the
first time as Lux led the charge for a guildluck treaty, instituted the
first written guild policy, worked diligently on morale within the
membership and took care to nurture inter-guild relations. After an 18
year reign, Lux was assassinated at the behest of Loki by the Assassin
Syrona... head severed from body. His body and head were taken by Darby
and sealed in a room until Leoni sent her followers to retrieve them.
Leoni magically reunited his body to head and called forth his soul,
most likely to irritate Loki.
Age of the Ivory Katana
148 - 151
This age, under the leadership of Honore, saw the continuation of the
work set forth under Lux. Honore, with a strong sense of leadership and
honor negotiated further guildluck treaties, fostered even further
growth in the guild and maintained a high level of guild morale as well
as further nurturing inter-guild relationships. This age saw the
building of a new Monks guild and the first monk to become a legend
(Laroon). Honore left Moorgate on a pilgrimage and was only heard from
sporadically, forcing Revenant to take on the duties of interim GM.
Age of the Inner Garden
155 - 164
This age, under the leadership of Revenant, began when word from Honore
was not received for an uncomfortable amount of time. As interim GM,
Revenant showed excellent leadership abilities and a love for his Guild
unparalleled. He was voted into permanency in a landslide vote. He led
the Guild through the troubled times of the great void and pervasive
amnesia. During his leadership the Guild saw the building of new halls,
their destruction by dragon fire and the rebuilding after hard
negotiations with the dwarves, serving as a model to many throughout it
all of quiet guidance and strength. He was the first mortal able to summon a golden mist.
Age of the Ancient Scroll
164 - 174
This age under the leadership of Galthus saw the wagon trains of
pilgrims and adventures which flooded the lands after the great void
increase to a number never seen before. Galthus' wisdom and
tranquillity made the Guild a resting point, a quiet and tranquil home
for those who found our Halls and decided to stay. His studies of the
old scrolls he loved so much helped him to find the best places
and conditions for the herbs the Guild is famous for. At the end of his
term he went blind and left to take service in Kali's temple.
Age of the Shining Aura
174 - 178
This age under the leadership of Bordelaise was marked by the second
luck war and the negotiations of a new luck treaty. During this time,
the great plague decimated the population of the realm. In such hard
times Bordelaise managed to uphold the spirits of the monks by her
kindness and bright nature. When she had to return to her homeland,
Aranel continued her work as interim GM.
Age of the Lotus Blossom
182 - 194
This age, under the leadership of Herman, saw the Guild recovering from
the losses caused by the great plague. As often happens, troubled times
sewed more
trouble, and the beginning of this age saw the Guild
split–some say by renegade Monks seeking power, others say by
competing ideologies and dissatisfaction with stagnation.
Herman’s never tiring efforts, and endurance led the Guild
through this turmoil. His constant and steady presense was a comfort to
many, and helped lead the Guild through this troubled time. He was
rarely seen heading towards his bunk.
Age of the Dragon Gi
194 - 210
This age, under the leadership of Nobunaga, was one of quiet rebuilding
and attempts to move past the turmoil of previous years. Unfortunately,
these years saw the Dragon Wars, and Nobunaga, of dragon descent, felt
it best to remove from Moorgate for the better safety of the Guild. His
term was finished by Brother Colourman.
Kulthesu
210- ?
This age is still unfolding, and Time has not yet spoken how it will be
marked in History.
