Paths of a Monk

Clarification on the available choices for our new guild members to choose from is long overdue. I have also noticed that some are unclear about what each path available signifies in the life of a monk. To that end, I was asked to write some clarifying points for everyone to have and remember as they progress. I feel it necessary to write in both IC and OOC terms in order to get my point across, so I will separate the two to avoid confusion.

Dojang of the Haikushi

OOC: The literal translation means "School of the Doctor". Rather self explanatory I think.

IC: This path was set up for those who wish to concentrate to the art of herbalism more than anything else. It typifies the caring nature of the Monk's guild and allows the opportunity to seek a life of peace above, but not necessarily instead of, one of war.

Dojang of the Daisho:

OOC: The literal translation means "School of the Author". Meant to give the impression that those who choose this path may "author" into being scrolls which result in spells. We've not found a usable way of doing so yet...but we're trying. It is also meant to give those who enjoy histories and writing a place to belong. Being a Daisho can and will prove very useful and fun to those who enjoy writing.

IC: The role of the scribe in the Monk's guild is one of perhaps greater importance than all others. Scribes keep the history of our guild alive and breathing in their tower allowing Monks young and old to benefit from t he lessons learned by those who came before.

Dojang of the Kwon

OOC: The literal translation means "School of the Silent Fist". The schools of the Kwon in modern days teach tolerance, patience, peace and above all they teach that the best course of action in any combat situation is to not go to combat in the first place. Kwon is NOT a discipline of killing, hunting, non-roleplaying or intolerance. Quite the opposite, it's the perfect path for showing the physical and mental disciplines of monks. There is nothing more impressive or intimidating than a person of peace with the ability to maim and kill with bare hands. One who chooses to walk away from battles when possible, but is far more than capable of tearing apart any enemy. Think of it in this way: You spend your training learning two things....how to kill and how to restrain your ability to kill. You strive for one thing and one thing only...the oneness of mind, body and spirit. Most important thing to remember? KWON IS NOT THE PATH FOR NON-ROLEPLAY!! There is no such path.

IC: "Tiwansha, Shambo, Tandi". The chants heard emanating from the tower of the Kwon. The monks in training are praying to their gods for "Mind, Body, Spirit". Humble by nature, helpful by cause and dangerous by necessity, the followers of the Kwon have found it unthinkable to carry out their service to the lands without the ability to protect those they serve. The Busho of the Kwon (Students of the Fist) are among the most revered combatants in all of Cosrin, yet, they are also the most humble considering their use of such deadly skills.

Once a monk has chosen his or her path, the mentor of that path, the GM of the guild, or a guild officer will then forward specific information about the path. Information will include translations of the terms used as well as some ideas as to how you may be able to proceed in your journey down your path of choice.

We pray to our gods that you may find peace and purpose.
