On the Charter

There are two seemingly simple rules to the charter. Don't teach the skills detailed, and don't interfere in the business of another rogue.

The first rule is very straight forward: List of skills, don't teach them. End of story. Teaching is all you can do with those skills short of using them, so there is only one way in which to get into trouble.

The second rule: Don't steal from another rogue or interfere in their business . Sounds simple, but it can be taken to various degrees. Every guilder is responsible for checking the current Guildmaster's standing on this second rule. They shall be gauged in order of complication. Level 10 (the most basic) to Level 1 (being the most involved) to simplify this complicated discussion.

Level 10: (Theft of Items, Business and Gold Basic)

Don't steal items or gold from a rogue, a party with a rogue in it or the guild. This includes the selling of poison and items for less then another rogue is advertising. Always check the current ads before you peddle your wares, 'I didn't know' or 'I forgot to check' are NOT acceptable defenses. On that note as well, volunteering to lie about your presence in a group because they're good friends, husband or wife, and so on because they're annoyed their gold just got stolen is viewed as interfering. 'I was hiding of course they couldn't see me' or 'I was on my way' or 'I stepped out for a moment' are NOT acceptable excuses. Besides… we should all know better then to leave a few grand in gold lying around. When preparing to steal gold from any group, it's the theives responsability to be aware of who is in that group. Check with the guild to see if anyone is hunting with a party in that area or sit in the room for a bit in the shadows and watch to see who all is fighting. Remember, the term 'party' is used in regards to any group, not just hunting groups. If a fellow rogue has been placed in charge or agreed to ensure the safety of something, they have entered into a verbal agreement. Theft or killing of whatever they may be custodian of is regarded as interfering in their business.

Level 8: (Theft of Items, Business and Gold Intermediate)

Ratting another guild member out concerning their activities resulting in them losing a contract, failing their objective or otherwise tipping off their target is considered theft of business. If someone cared about is the target of a death request or is currently getting scammed by another guild member, it is not your place to tip them off. You are either for the guild or against it. Death by mortal hands is seldom eternal and gold can be earned back. Don't take things so personally.

Level 6: (Theft of Items, Business and Gold Advanced)

Destroying something the guild has invested in or jointly put effort towards is considered theft from the guild. If the guild willingly repairs another guild that some bored rogues ruined then the next week the same thing occurs you have wasted guild money that otherwise would have been used for extensions, items and upgrades. It is understandable that over time such considerations would dissolve, but the immediate time surrounding such issues is not advisable. A business exchange has taken place or has yet to take place and you have just interfered in that. This also includes the murder of person or persons yet to complete business with a fellow guild member, there by destroying their business; or theft of an item currently under debate concerning within the guild and its members.

Level 4: (Theft of Reputation)

Repeatedly placing the guild in harms way, disregarding its safety, reputation or standing is considered theft of reputation (which is required to retain the guild as we were given PERMISSION to build it by the crown and become a part of the ECONOMY). The guild holds the right to disown any member that repeatedly threatens its livelihood or existence in anyway. Petty thievery will not place you here. Grand thievery will not place you here. This form of thievery is damaging on a long term basis and dictates whether or not the guild will get approval from the city for sale of new items and extension options. Once or twice committing the act of reputation theft will normally be overlooked, but should the guild advise you that your actions must stop, you are expected to respect that request.

Level 2: (Theft through Death)

The killing of another rogue is considered theft from the guild. The guild invests its time and effort in every member in teaching them skills, bestowing them gifts or organizing activities to generate resources. When a rogue dies the guild loses money and tithe. So in essence one is stealing those future resources from the guild in killing another guild member. It is every members responsibility to approach the Guild Officers before taking that drastic step.

Level 1: (Theft of The Heart)

A marriage between two rogues is a business contract. Should one rogue violate the principals of that marriage and break their contract the other rogue with due proof can request a movement to have the offending rogue shunned.

Avoidance, Redemption and Your GM

The guild has a history of letting first offenders walk with little more then a warning depending on the offense. This statement is NOT a guarantee of immunity on a first offense.

A shunned title is also not always a permanent status depending on the crime. Redemption and shunning are both left to the discretion of the Guildmaster and their officers. So don't push the envelope.

The guild will only be swayed to reconsider a guild members shunning if they show a genuine interest in recovering their status and also make independent efforts to prove they wish to be a part of the guild again. One may also be required to perform additional tasks and duties before they are deemed worthy of associating with the rest of guild freely again and regain their skills and items.

REMEMBER shunned rogues are enemies of the guild; traitors. Anyone caught helping them in any fashion has made their allegiance clear and shall suffer the same fate. Bear in mind this may interfere in some marriages if the current Guildmaster chooses to uphold the charter to the first level.

NOTE: A permanent list of shunnings will be found in the message mansion detailing all shunnings that take place from this point on so as not to allow the passage of time chance to erase crimes against the guild or allow undesireable un-rogues back through the doors.
