::Eris
leaves her baby dragon at the Mage's Guild stables, and wanders into a
cozy mediation room, where she begins her fasting and her contemplative
journey of self discovery ::
I was born Eris, named after one of me
mother's
benefactors where she was raised, as it was their custom tae name the
first born female. I remember the first five years of me life as happy
and warm in a home in the woods living life as the typical sprite
family. I remember fondly the daily life instructions of my mother,
Inzakella, who was a most spectacular specimen of spritely beauty. She
and my father, Flish, had a love that transcended the physical world,
for he was a clumsy and brutish as she was lovely, and yet their souls
were as one.
I vaguely can recall one particularly
dark night,
after my brother Flit had killed his first bear, an evening of chaos
and blood and the loss of me parents. But I do remember that Flit led
me into the night for safe keeping. And, after days of wandering, Flit
and I stumbled upon the ritual camp of the Spiritual Sisters, where
they welcomed me in for I was far too frail tae survive the wilderness
with only Flit's protection. After my introduction tae the sisters,
Flit ruffled my hair, as he always did, and told me he would return
when he had secured a new home for us, for the Sisters would nae let
him stay, it was forbidden. And, well, I grew quite fond of them.
Many seasons passed into years of devoted
study of
the spirit world, I scribed much from the sisters, whose magic was
taken from the purest forms of nature and was far older than I could
imagine. As I waited and wondered when, if ever, Flit would return for
me.
I
kept constant within me the final daily instruction
given me by me mother, "Eris, remember we wrestle not against flesh and
blood, as do our fighter friends, but we battle against the powers of
darkness and evil, so my daughter, shield yourself with your
innocence, armour yourself with the purity of your spirit, stay
steadfast, and you shall be protected from the dark powers that would
harm you." I held onto those words as if they were me lifeline.
Womanhood transformed me gangly shape
into that of a
keen likeness of me passed mother. Me long golden blonde hair, which
always seems wind blown, unabashedly displays her kindly face. The
hazel eyes that sometimes change in hue, now twinkled with a
mischievous light. As I turned eighteen, I had unified my skills enough
to survive on my own. I knew it was time tae find and fulfill me
purpose. The sisters heard tell of happenings in Moorgate, a place
where a young lass could find kinship and a profession tae call
her own. So, I set off, my heart filled with the joy and wonderment of
new opportunities.
Upon me arrival in Moorgate, I promptly
joined the
Mage's Guild and found instructors and tutors a plenty. Then there was
the issue of My First Pony, not an experienced rider, I rode through
the streets with wild abandon. It seemed at my every turn there was
this young dashing half-elf fighter, Goldenblood, aiding some newcomer
or meself. As I gazed into his eyes, I could see the sheer purity of
his soul and the nobility of his heart. As true a gentlemen, I thought,
had never existed.
Under a blanket of stars, Goldenblood
proposed.
However, a few weeks into the engagement an urgent messenger arrived
with news from his family, "It is your mother, Goldenblood, you must
return home at once." He immediately set out for his homeland tae
attend tae family business. Now and again, over these many years, I
would hear from him. I tried as I might tae forget my loneliness with
quests and adventures and living as a silly sprite should; taunting the
ghostly captain in his fortress, sloping through the
sewers with me pal Snookums, and sometimes fluttering through town
center as fast as I could, yet, something was missing.
One
beautiful dusk, as I flew through town I smacked
right into another sprite, an older, darker, version of my brother
Flit. "Why you look like...Eris?!" I gazed into his eyes, his eyes that
we so much like our father's, my heart ached, "Aye! Flit?" Flit reached
over and ruffled me hair as he did so oft as children. We hugged and
giggled. "Why you must come to my home and share a meal, and I must
hear of you...is that an engagement ring upon your finger?" That very
night, he told me of Lerrim and his allegiance
with Morlend, we exchanged stories of the years passed, until we were
quite exhausted and could barely speak. The sun began to rise in Cosrin
as Flit peered at me and said, "Eris, great powers await you if only
you would ask to be a Blood Mage." These words pierced my heart like a
dagger, "No...Flit...no" I shook my head in disbelief and peered at him
looking for a vital clue. I placed my hand over my pounding heart and
said, "For what lies here can
never be turned, not even by me only brother." With those words hanging
in the air I set to wandering the early dewed streets of Moorgate
wondering if I would ever know the warm embrace of love and family
again.
Until.....after numerous adventuring
encounters with
Yasamina and Lerrim, two of the finest, bravest fighters in the land.
And, after, many a night in the tavern swapping tales of slaughtered
beasts. One magical night, Yas leaned over to me and said, "I have
talked it over with the others, you are officially invited to join the
Elite Sisters of Battle" I giggled nervously, "Ummm, oh, my...what ist
me test tae join?" Yasamina pondered on the problem, smiled slyly.
Lerrim chuckled. Yasamina reached into her pack
and removed a pair of thigh length boots, "you must be able to wear
these...and wear them well!" Lerrim rolled on the floor laughing. I
tried on the exquisitely made boots that fit me like a glove. "Oh yes!
You wear them quite well...quite well, you will make a fine sister."
From that night forward my heart has been
filled with
the mystical joy that is Cosrin. For as a wise cantor once sang, "in
the end the love you take is equal to the love you make..."
::With the
joyous remembrance of sweet friends adopted into family, Eris stirs
from her trancelike state quite refreshed. She strolls to the main hall
of the Mage's Guild to see what has transpired in her absence::
