Nergul, Master of the elements
It was a stormy night in Moorgate when a young sorcerer sat in the
tower of the mages guild below the feet of an aged man in black robes.
Thunder filled the air and a torch barely lit the room occasionally
helped by the lightning outside. The old mage looked at the young one
and began to tell his tale:
"A long time ago, when Moorgate was but a village I lived with my
parents in a small hut at the beach. My father barely managed to feed
us with the little money he got from working as a fisherman and my mom
was more than busy keeping me and my brother under control." Smiling he
lighted up his pipe. "Well, I remember like it was yesterday. It was a
day in autumn, storms blew outside and I feared the wind would take the
roof of our little hut away. My father promised not to go out because
my mother was afraid the storm might sink the tiny boat he used to get
us fed. But my brother was eager to go and my father knew that he had
to just to keep us alive. So he went out to the sea with my brother to
bring something home he could sell at the market the next day, he was
sure mom wouldn't be too angry if he came home with a little gold.
Alas, he never came back. I was standing at the shore watching father
and Uril sailing out to the sea, when the wind started to become
stronger and dark clouds filled the sky. Rain came, thunder and
lightning filled the sky and the small boat seemed to be in serious
trouble. I held fast to the leg of my mother afraid the wind might take
me away. My mom just stood and stared as silent tears rolled down her
face. Then suddenly a large creature appeared, the legendary Kraken
came out of the sea. My heart stopped, the air was filled with a
supernatural tension I was frozen, unable to move at the sight of the
huge monster that was about to kill my father and my beloved brother
Uril. I screamed NOOOOOO!! When I felt a sensation filling me with
powers I never had imagined to be there. Streams of fire, lightning and
ice shot from my hands and hit the beast." Lost in his tale the old
sorcerer blew a few smoke rings in the air. "I broke down. The next
thing I remember is I woke up in a bed with white linnen and an old man
sat in a chair next to me. The room had walls made of stone and the
furniture was scarce, yet exclusive. A marvelous sight for me that had
lived in poverty all his life. "Rest young one for you are weak now,
but I shall help you to master the powers you posess." Confused I
looked at the old man with his white beard and that long robes. After
some explanations he introduced himself as Leu Vatar a legendary
sorcerer a that time. I became his apprentice, never to see my parents
or my brother again, I missed them for a while but my master taught me
a lesson. Having a gift like that mustn't be wasted nor may it stay
uncontrolled by the will of its owner. After decades of learning I
returned from Leu Vatar's tower deep in the Dark Blizzard Pass to
Moorgate to become myself a tutor of the fine art of sorcery knowing
that I had to find young ones like you that carry the gift of the
elements inside themselves and help them to master their powers. I may
have lost my family, but I have received a gift beyond the imagination
of most mortals. Feel blessed young one, tat you are one of them!" With
that the old sorcerer waved his arms and the storm outside began to tie
down, becoming a gentle breeze and the lightning and thunder stopped.
With a low "Hur hur hur!" he showed the young elven sorcerer out of his
rooms and said "Use your powers wisely youngin' and you may become a
master of the elements, too one day!".
