Instead of recounting the still unknown
to me details of my past, I will instead give you reason why I am what
I am. Isn't that what everyone wants? To know why they do what they do?
I believe that all assassins and rogues
have an underlying reason for the unprincipled acts that we do. Many a
rogue began stealing so as to not die from starvation. Many an assassin
kills because, frankly, it is a great source of money.
Of course, once you start, you can't stop. Thievery is like a runaway
chariot. You have to match the pace set or be crushed in the process.
Yet, I am different than those
stereotypes. In my brief tale, you will see why I am how I am.
No one has ever meant anything to me
besides him. He was the only one who could overextend himself to care
for an orphan like me. He was all that mattered to me.
"When will we head to town for
supplies?'', asked I.
"A little later. There is no hurry. Just
sit back and take a load off.", replied my adopted uncle.
With a sigh I sat down. It was hard work,
working for a weaponsmith. It was also decent money. I sat back and
briefly closed my weary eyes.
When I opened them, we were not alone.
Standing before me was one of the land holding barons, Sir Edgar by
name. With a resigned sigh I sat up.
"Yes sir?", I managed to say with as
little sarcasm as possible.
"This will only take a moment. Otto," (my
uncle,)" You must come with us. You are under charges for withholding
tax money."
I laughed. "Surely you are mistaken Sir.
My uncle has done nothing...", Otto raised a hand to quiet me.
"I'm sure this can be straightened out.
Don't worry officer, I'll cooperate."
With that he left with the Baron.
That was the last time I ever spoke to
him.
He was hung under false charges.
The kindest person known to man was
wrongfully killed. And I just let him go.
Never again, I thought as a tear fell
down my face. Never will I let the 'Law' take anything from me. That
tear was the last I shed in my life.
So, I kill for one reason. Not money, not
fame. I kill for a simple thing called hate. And, surprisingly, it has
fueled me ever since.
